Mark Twain’s Memoranda
TWAIN, Mark. Mark Twain’s Memoranda. From the Galaxy. Toronto: The Canadian News and Publishing Company , 1871.
First edition. Octavo. [2, blank], 142, [2, blank] pp. With two lithographed illustrations. Original black cloth, gilt-stamped on front cover, blindstamped on front and rear covers. Small stain to front cover, front outer hinge repaired. Otherwise, a fine copy.

Amongst the rarest of Twain's early publications. An unauthorized Canadian piracy from his contributions in the New York literary periodical Galaxy (from May 1870 to February 1871), thus creating a new book title which was in itself never published in the United States. BAL 3327 records the normal imprint as The Canadian News and Publishing Company, but notes copies have been located bearing the name of different distributors (as in our version). RLIN cites only the AAS copy (imprinted as Canadian News & Publishing Co). In 1871, Sheldon and Co. published A Burlesque Autobiography which was previously published in Twain's Memoranda.
