Edition de Luxe, with Twelve Mounted Color Plates
ANDERSEN, Hans Christian. NIELSEN, Kay. Fairy Tales by Hans Andersen. Illustrated by Kay Nielsen. London: Hodder and Stoughton , [n.d., 1924].
Edition de Luxe. Limited to 500 numbered copies, this copy bound without signed limitation page. Large quarto (12 x 9 3/4 inches; 305 x 250 mm). [3]-197, [3, blank] pp. Twelve mounted color plates, with descriptive tissue guards. Numerous black and white text illustrations (seventeen full-page) and decorative borders and initials.

In later binding. Full vellum over boards pictorially stamped and lettered in gilt on front cover and spine. Newer endpapers and silk page marker. Occasional light spotting to descriptive tissue guards only. Some toning to mounting pages, but illustrations are clean and bright. A beautiful copy.

Nielsen had completed these drawings in 1912. Hodder and Stoughton, however, published another edition of Hans Andersen in 1913, illustrated by Heath Robinson, which probably explains the late appearance of the Nielsen edition.
