Photogravure frontispieces in two states and plates from photographs by Charles S. Olcott, except for the frontispiece portrait in Volume I (from the portrait by Laurence in the National Portrait Gallery, London). Descriptive tissue guards. With an autograph manuscript fragment bound into Volume I, An Autobiography. The manuscript fragment in present copy is taken from and article "On the Best Means of Extending and Securing an International Law of Copyright" by Anthony Trollope. Manuscript reads: "countries would desire such a defence of their rights. But it will, perhaps, be argued that great public interests should be held to be paramount, and regarded as overruling altogether the rights of authors on the commercial."

In publisher's binding, bound at the Riverside Press in three-quarter brown crushed levant morocco over tan boards. Spines decoratively gilt tooled in compartments. Top edge gilt, others uncut. Brown silk ribbon place holders in each volume. A fine set in a handsome binding.
