Thea Von Harbou was film maker Fritz Lang’s wife and collaborator. The inspiration for the book and film came from Lang when he saw the enormous skyscrapers of New York from the deck of his ship. He suggested to his wife that she write the futuristic novel and screenplay, which he filmed to universal acclaim.
